A lovely shot of a scene that takes me back to the ‘50s’ when ‘spotting trains’ was my boyhood hobby. There was something special about steam locomotives!

That does look like a shot that was taken in the age of steam. I do wonder why the NYMR run trains on the right rails of the tracks? Are they repairing the other rails? David

David the NYMR is single line and the goods yard and sidings are on that side of the railway. the train is being signalled into a siding so the next passenger train from Pickering can take the platform.

A quite super steam train setting-off image. There are plenty of train buffs in attendance, so must be difficult not to get nudged when trying to take a picture. I bit of smoke and steam also look more impressive than the sleek lines of today's trains.

There remains a deep,romance about steam engimes....that diesel/electric freight engines or electric trains may never have......and for,the sake of the world and climate,,let's be glad that they are history. We can never go back to burning coal.

I think it has been given the name Lord of the Isles at various times since preservation. No doubt this is due to it's regular duties on the West Highland line.
