Gordon Bennet Miss Bennet!

By Ericsamson
‘Oh Mr D’Arsey Bustle - it is a truth universally acknowledged that you are blessed by providence with a long felt want.

A long felt wand Miss Bennet?

Heavens no Mr D’Arsey Bustle! Kindly remember this quilt is not suitable for viewing by those unqualified by maturity and experience. Moreover you would do well to make proper use your ear trumpet.

What a relief Miss Bennet.

One does one’s best Mr D’Arsey Bustle.

Ah my dear Miss Bennet what joy that we are reunited. The same old magic!

And regrettably Mr D’Arsey Bustle, the same old wand.

My apologies Miss Bennet; I fear that you have located my ear trumpet.

Dear Mama was right in this as in so many things. A young lady of slender means and with little in the way of social advancement must make the best of things.

(A section of dialogue between Miss Kylie Bennet and Mr Elvis D'Arsey Bustle taken from the draft notebooks of Miss Jane Austen-Morris. It was eventually used in the Winchester Strolling Players' Pantomime, 'No Sense at Coathanger Abbey'. It flopped ... as did Mr D'Arsey Bustle. 🥴 )

With apologies to whoever crafted this remarkable quilt of which this is only a small detail.

My thanks for the very kind responses to the film Friday offering and, in particular, to Colin, Ian, John, Geoff and Carol for their very generous awards. What a joy! 😀 I shall be bowing out for the next week as I am booked in for a full rebuild.

All the best for the week ahead, Graham. 🙂

I'm struggling to cope with long, felt wands - can't help but think they'd be a most definite flop! No amount of magic would right the matter.

As for ear trumpets - Mr 'D'arsy's' anatomy must leave the medical experts in a truly mind-boggling state!

A beautiful tapestry and credit to the skilled and creative person responsible.

An excellent image and wonderfully entertaining narrative, Graham.

Lovely patchwork quilt with the tapestry centre piece. I think Jane Austen would give it her seal of approval, plus charge royalties?

" Ah Miss Bennet, I plundered the Amazon rain forest at great risk to present you with these rare and exotic flora, forsooth and all that, come join with me (?) in the orangery and peruse my succulents for those personal risks must warrant such."

" Alas Mr Bustle all you will get from me in the orangery, or anywhere else for that matter, would be a knee assisted raising of your egg plants to the level of your adams apple!" " For a gentleman to be permitted amidst my foliage he would need to be wise enough to first remove the £4.75 Texaco garage price tag from his 'exotic flora' and you sir, are obviously not!"

Don't blame me, Jeeves was at the seaside sans bucket and spade and man cannot live on tinned pilchards and port without getting just a little woolly between the ears!
