Think their meaner looking facial expressions suit the character more, and especially in mono too! Smile

I think you have the tones just right. Looks like a shady pair of blokesSmile

Must have been something you said.
( Hard to offer any helpful thoughts without the original file, but quite honestly Kate it looks okay to me. Nothing wrong with it.
I'd probably darken the whole thing a bit, but that's just me.)

Excellent work, tone gradation is the most suitable for portraits. In Graham's modification the become more "hard", also as characters. In your original work they are more gentle, you choose and you get, Kate!
Also, glad for the 30th vote!

Smashing pair.
I do prefer the one rendered in Silver Effects because itís a little grittierSmile

Nice pose, but looks very washed out.

I uploaded a mod with some comments. However, it would be great if you could upload the colour original as your own mod. Its best to solve the colour cast issue first in the colour image.

Thanks for the original Kate, - its very helpful.

So, - first, there is no colour cast at all, as the whites are white; of there was a colour cast, the whites woould have a tint the same colour as the colour cast. This is not something Ive judged by eye, - Ive measure it in Photoshop.

So, IF you are noticing any sort of strong cast, - I would calibrate whatever screen you are using to view it.

What I do see, - and this is completely typical for a Canon portrait, is that the colour Red is slightly exaggerated; this is how Canon does color, and all others have their own bias, - Nikon for example favours Green.

So, to correct this, I opened the colour balance tool; then set the Cyan/Red slider towars Cyan by 7; and with the blue/yellow slider, towards yellow by 5. This ave nme a better looking colour.

I hadnt noticed at first that you used flash, - so thats why the faces are very shiny!. So the mod has exposure decreased a little, highlights toned down also.

Ive loaded a colour, a mono, and a du tone mod. The mono is a fairly straight conversion in Photoshop, no fancy filters; it has the red slider and yellow slider pushed way towards the left; a duo tone is something that Photoshop can do easily, and if you want to explore it, its under Mode> Duotone; it works only with greyscale image, - and the result has to have the Mode set back to RGB.

Hope this helps
