Grand Mosque

By ade_mcfade
Here's a a lass standing in the whitest place I#'ve been, abu dhabis grand mosque, a blinding place when the sun is out!

got so many shots of the lovely architecture.... so I decided to upload something a bit different

You get the white and the stone decoration, and this girl just stood looking at a wall.... odd

looking at it now I'd maybe make her green sleeve black....

A great looking location Ade, and strange to have the figure just looking at the wall

Normally I regard space behind a subject's back as wasted space, here it's almost the subject in its own right. It's her isolation, it's the big wide light world that she is looking away from. The only change that I would make would be to crop off the soft vertical panel on the right, let the frame finish at the darker flowers. They create a better full stop, end of story. And it would avoid the almost-but-not-quite central placement.

The green sleeve works for me. It just does. She has a green collar as well. Like the profile of the face, it's individuality against uniformity.

The most creative composition I've seen in ages, I wish I had taken it. It asks questions.

How do you get to take photos in a Mosque? I would have thought it was frowned on.

It says something to me about religion in a way, staring at a wall/pillar could typify some peoples opinion of religion itself.

Or its just me.

Fab shot. The composition is brave but it works. This is quite beautiful, and I like the green sleeve. It matches the flower on the wall and works for me as a connection between that and the girl.

A very strong composition Ade, I also found the white overwhelming when I was there. Those were pillars she was looking at, most probably admiring the inlaid flowers that were so stingingly beautiful.
To answer Willies question...the idea of this mosque was to open it to all religions (as long as the women who enter cover themselves with a burka ) to teach people about their culture and beliefs...one of the most opulent places I have ever visited

Nicely exposed Ade. I doubt that getting this right was very easy.

Moira alludes to what I feel here. I applaud the different composition, but feel it goes too far. The huge white area adds nothing for me. This is going to be personal preference again, buy, for me, the image is a portrait format. But then, I like filling the frame.

Love that large expanse of light, - again, in a religious sense, she is walking away from the light!

Given the amount of white bouncing around inside this structure, I'm amazed (but not necessarily suprised) that you managed to retain the level of detail that you did Smile

I wasn't sure what to say about this one at first, but the more I look at it the more I like it. There's a simplicity about it that belies the power contained within that girl, the wall and the white walls and floor.

I like the touch of green in the sleeve, although at the current brightness it is, for me, a touch distracting away from the flowers on the columns. I would also personally like to see a touch more detail in the walls and floor. So in my mod I added a curves adjustment layer, moved things around a bit until I liked what I saw, and the Input/Output figures ended up at 237/227 respectively. That also took the vibrancy of the bright green of the sleeve down a touch, while retaining the colour. Oh, and I also cropped a fraction from the right hand side in, just to be 'normal' and place her on a third Wink

I've also just relaised that where she's standing, she's between columns so my mind is now wondering whether she's looking at the flowers at all, or something beyond them.

But the one bit that I think I like the most in this is the two darker spots to this side of her ... like a pair of ghostly shadow footprints of someone standing beside her. Not seen, but felt nonetheless Smile

Fanciful, perhaps, but this is one of those images that is definitely growing on me ...

I think those spots are lights - which light the arches at night, it's open till 10PM

interesting views everyone

cheers
