I had an amazing wild camp last Mon/Tues up on Great Gable.

The forecast had been for pretty hot weather, but reading more into the forecats, in particular the hill fog predicted for Monday, I decided to head up to the Lakes. Snowdonia was my first choice, but the clear skies and hazy next morning just didn't appeal.

Where there's hill fog, there's always chance to get above it and get a pretty good inversion, but you often have to go big. This is why I chose Great Gable, particularly as the forecasts saying it would clear to the Irish Coast.

We walked to the top and while we could see cloud burning off, we were swamped with little visibility at the top. We found a pitch for my tent on the baren summit full of rocks and headed for sunset. Still swamped in fog it seemed we were perhaps looking at a sunrise.

However, as can often be the case, the next moment the wind whipped a load of fog by and we were all of a sudden above the clouds. They quickly broke up and left the scene I'm sharing with you right now.

Funnily enough, we had definitely chose the best place as looking at the rest of the Lakes it had already cleared and just Wasdale hills were holding on to any remaining cloud.

The visibility had become amazing, seeing Isle Of Man, Scotland and Wales as well of course, England.

What a day and I'm glad to be able to share this picture with you, I have many more to go through, that's for sure!
