Not sure about over-saturated on this one as there isn't much colors anyway.
But I think I prefer this one, even though I do like the landscape one a lot. The stare is very intense. and The camouflage is amazing.

This balances nicely Cheryl, colours look good to me not oversaturated at all.
Such a natural looking pose, witnessed these like this in the wild in Sweden many years ago.
Great capture

I think I prefer the first, because of the more settled pose and less ruffled feathers. The echo between the feather patterning and the tree trunk is not so pronounced here because the bird has turned toward the viewer more and we lose one of the wings.

I think I'd prefer the other shot ... but cropped Smile

I do like this but the other shot shows a better pose and feel in my opinion. Also in the other shot the background branches (were it cropped) would in my opinion be less distracting than those displayed here.

Maybe you could crop the landscape version and post it in the same format as a version so we can compare?

Will upload the other shot cropped as an image in it's own right tomorrow Smile I have about 10-15 similar frames so will try and choose one that loks a little different.

Was a shame that as soon as I went to portrait mode the owl decided to stare at the ground. It's one of the problems with captive owls, they really only work when staring directly at the camera or side on.

Ruffled feathers will be because of the gusts of wind and also I don't think the owl was too happy about being exposed on the end of the branch in the high wind. They generally tend to go close to the trunk of the tree.

Thanks for all the input - vote seems a bit split, so we will see how the third version does.

We have some sleet showers now, so hoping to get some small bird images.

Back later.

This is EVEN better than the previous image IMO.

Portrait orientation and B/G compliment it more.

SUPERB capture.

This is great wildlife photography as well as having wonderful pictorial quality. I like the way the owl's plumage matches the texture and colour of the tree bark.
