Great Northern Diver

By ron thomas
Had a great day out with my son Matthew today. We ended up at the Marine Lake West Kirby, Wirral where we caught sight of what we thought was a Cormorant. It turned out to be a Great Northern Diver which we followed around the lake leaping into action whenever the bird surfaced from a fishing dive or “snorkelling” session. We checked in the “big book of heavy bird information” later and it seems that this individual is probably one of just 600 from this part of the world down from Iceland. Quite possibly a juvenile or sub-adult. I lay flat at the edge of the lake for this shot but I think Matthew got the best pic.. I hope he uploads it!

A superb shot Ron, deserves a lot of votes and my goodness so does all the rest of your work. Don't understand this at all.

agree with Nikontuk over the votes you well deserve and also yes its a great shot - flat on your belly to (wish I had been there to see that) would have made a great image
