Great Shot!

By AndrewCee
I regularly shoot for pleasure at our local ice hockey games and was lucky to get this shot - missed by the pros!!

Not much to say about it other than I'd love to have got all of the netminder in shot, but hey, I'll take it. White balance was set shooting the gray card on the edge of the ice and setting the D4 accordingly. I tend to expose a wee bit low so as to get detail in the ice and avoid blowing out the white shits, one can see the detail in the fabric on the original raw image. I use manual shutter at 1/1500 and shoot wide open with the 70-200 f2.8 and ISO set to auto. I use the 'back button' to auto focus, i.e. not the shutter release.

I love the descriptions you give on your images, I find them very helpful especially to an amateur like me!Tongue As for the image you obviously know what you are doing, the timing and exposure are spot onGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

Thanks Ryan for your comments. I do try to talk a bit about how I took the shots, albeit most have been taken over the past few months. I hope, being new to the site, I can use some past shots to build my portfolio. I would add, I have gotten back into the hobby after doing lots of black and white many years ago, loading cassettes with film, developing etc when photography relied on film and chemicals. In the past three months I've set up my own darkroom again and can process black and whilte film, etc. I love anything which is more challenging, yet to put some macro work up!

I digress, another example of ice hockey is on the way.

Regards to all,
Andrew
