Green Machine

By Herge88
Something a bit different today, this will probably appeal more to Mick than anybody else but here goes.
A friend of mine builds sells and services computers, I have recently purchased one myself and this is another he has built. He asked me to take a series of shots as a promotional exercise and this is one of them. Its a Green Xion and looks great in the dark when its lit up, and I also like the fact that you can see the workings so I have posted it to see what you think.

Thanks as always for looking and f11 and large work best.

Matt

Can we see it all lit up? So that's what you have as I have a black Dell box , insides all hidden.

Definitely different. I was trying to guess from the thumbnail, thought it was a detail from a car. Which probably shows how much I understand about cars...
Lovely study in colour, particularly the 'works' on the left.

Its a nice one Matt.As it's a promo' shot it would have to be the bigger pic.Good inclusion of the workings. For personal work there are numerous options for small details in the centre piece alone. It looks a very interesting machine.Feel free to pass it on if you wish.Good work.

Oh dear, giving away my age and inclinations - seeing the green X in the thumbnail, I can only think of two uses for the saltire apart from the Scots one (wrong colour) and the main one is BEER. That will have to come later, and I'm a day behind my punishing schedule already.........

Now due to Large+F11 I can tell. Fascinating detail in both the image and the description; and Green's my favourite colour because black isn't a colour. Here I go again - must be the thirst. I'll drink to your number 30!

Bill

Great capture, although it brings back bad memories, a few years ago built my own PC, didn't fit the CPU cooler correctly, it fell off and melted the CPU, so thanks for the memories Wink

Thanks

Heh, nice image Matt! I love the green colour. Bit X-otic..... (sorry! Couldn't resist the awful pun..)

I take it this was a tripod shot. How to get it better still ????

The innards look a bit blurred to me, so I guess you were deliberately doing that, 'cos the edge of the gfx card is just in focus. How about a shot from further away, dead square on, with as near to f22 that you can to keep everything in the hyperfocal distance, using a setting nearer the 200mm end of the lense?

That would minimise distortion, put everything bang in focus and have an architectural feel. You could then blur selectively to de-emphasise things like wiring, etc. if you wanted to. Including the whole case, you'd also get the option to selectively crop for some details, such as the X or the fan fitting....

An HDR exposed for the LED's and the chassis separately? Could get some interesting effects there...

Disconnect the case fan and get a shot of it static then superimpose it on a shot of the fan turning with a bit of rotational whirly distortion to give the sense of speeding up?

The classic thing is to take macro or detailed elements and use one blown right up, as a very subtle background (low opacity) behind the image of the computer.

Blimey, was I on a roll there??

HTH Matt and good luck with the challenge!!

Cheers, Goggz

Goggz, thanks for the tips, yes this was taken on a tripod, and yes the innards were meant to be blurred as the emphasis for this shot was the X.

However you have some interesting ideas and I may be doing some more of these, even though I probably wont post them on here. I don't yet know how to do HDR so any tips?
