Green Man carvings

By HobbitDave
Curious Green Man carving. This is on a very heavy old oak box that I was given by friends doing a clear-out. v.1 is the hinged top of the 'box'.
I think it may be sections from a very old (17th century?) carved pew, from a disusued church? The chest is about 2ft 6" high by 15" front and sides, and the carving is really good quality. The oak is really heavy. Possibly the box was made to keep riding boots in, prior to the days of the petrol engine? It is only hinged at the top.
Ideas welcomed from any budding David Dickinsons Wink It definitely is very old. There is a similar Green Man church pew in a very old and attractive church not far from here. The pew there is supposed to be from the 1600s.

This may be the last photo for a short while that I put on EPZ as am changing my camera system, so to all my friends, see you quite soon I hope back here, and thanks for the kind comments on all my previous upoads.

Best to all,
Dave.

I don't understand your changing camera system means, is that serious enough to stop you uploading photos?
