Ground Zero 2007

By Owdman
I was just looking through some old photographs and came across a couple I had taken at Ground Zero when we visited New York in 2007. We stood in the viewing gallery overlooking the reconstruction that was taking place and I took a few photographs with my Olympus E-500. Looking at the images I realised I could join two together and create this panorama of what was a very evocative occasion, as it certainly brought back very vivid memories of watching the events live on TV.

I ahve to admit that we more or less bypassed the area when we were in New York in 2008: without in any way downplaying the horror of what happened there, I spent 16 years working in a city, Coventry, that had the whole of (a far smaller) centre destroyed during the war, and I remember when London was full of bomb sites instead of atrocious flats.

There has to be a balance between respectful remmebrance and something rather more morbid, I feel.
