Groundhog Day

By Philo
I got up early every morning in Turkey to witness sunrise but it was exactly the same each day: not a cloud in site, no great colours in the sky and the island of Kos in the hazy distance. So this was my attempt at trying to make the most of the early light.
Your views would be appreciated.

This is a beautiful image captured so well and presented

Good light, though maybe a fraction overexposed.
I might have been tempted (if possible) to move to the left and put the bushes lower right and the end of the pier top left. That would have exaggerated the curve of the shore and the white thing rhs would have made a strong triangle. At the moment the sea is a bit of "dead space", and although I can see the horizon is level, the picture looks like it has a lean to the right due to the angles of the components.

A pleasant, peaceful image though. Nice when there are no people around.

Some of us moan about the weather in this country, being so changeable and all, but it must be weird living somewhere where you can predict what the conditions are going to be like every day. Not good for photography, as you say. Nevertheless it is a very pleasant shot. I agree with Sooty about the exposure. The early light is nice but it's still quite harsh, It may not have been possible to get the exposure right with a single shot, especially with the white elements in the pic.

The tilt thing is odd. The horizon looks level but the water in the middle distance looks like it is sloping down to the right Smile

As our "indian summer" looks like it is over it's great to have some sunny pics of holiday places.

Best wishes

Some good feedback here Phil.

Thanks everyone, some great feedback. I know the image appears to lean which is why I checked the horizon several times. An illusion perhaps?
I have another shot taken from the right of this and I will upload that tomorrow. See if I can tone down the highlights too.

Thanks Frank, I think the white thing is probaly what Nick was referring to also. I will see what I can do about toning it down or cloning if that doesn't work.

It's a well composed very clean image. I wonder if half a stop less exposure might be an idea, but it certainly looks very proficient.

Yes Paul, that seems to be the general opinion so I have adjusted exposure on the one for tomorrow.
