Guarding the ball

By Madoldie
This is my youngest Boxer dog watching me while guarding his ball, making sure I don 'get to close. Photographed on a overcast day using my 50mm lens.

Compared with a lot of yrou shots lately, this strikes me as a family album snapshot, rather than a photograph.

There's space at the top and bottom, but the dog's rear is cut off... Maybe a landscape format woul have owrked better (or an altogether tighter crop).

Technically, it's nice and sharp, but hte contrast and saturation are very high indeed.

I've done a cropped, desaturated, and softer mod.

I'm interested in why you processed to such high settings.

Similar comments to dudler.

Its all about the face, so focusing there for a composition can work best. Loaded a mod along the same lines as dudler also.

You have to be doing a lot of post processing here, with contrast and colour very high? What sort of screen are you viewing this on? Laptop or tablet or calibrated monitor?

Hi guys, I didn't think that the colour and contrast looked very high on my screen, just using a desk top computer with photoshop elements 11 Willie.
Thanks both for the mods, concentrating more on the face works a lot better than having half the dog in the photograph.
pablophotographer, the grass does need cutting but that's always a job for tomorrow ........
All the best,

But why cut grass when there are pictures to be taken?

Exactly dudler, the grass will always be there, I just got to prioritise what I need do. Taking photographs is a lot more fun !! I'm thinking of paving it anyway.

I only said so because half of the dog is hidden behind the grass, less brass, more dog to be photographed!

Time to recreate the English meadow... That's what my sister has done...
