Gull Attack !

By PaulLiley
I was dive bombed by two black headed gulls on Leighton Moss Reserve yesterday as they defended a young juvenile gull which was on the path in front of me. The young gull wasn't flying but merely hopping along the track. I managed to snap this action shot during one of the many attacks hand holding a Sigma 150-500mm. When I downloaded the image onto the computer it seemed I was looking down the barrel of the gulls mouth. Needless to say once I discovered the young gull and realised the reason for the adults behaviour I left them alone in peace. It wasn't fair to prolong their agony and anxiety.

Finer shot on the approach attack, Paul: wonderful detail considering the rate of knots it must have been going you managed to focus on anything beats me.
I remember when out with our retriever in Pollok Country Park being dive bombed by crows when near one of their young, the dog receiving more of their attentions than myself.
