H.M.S. Alliance

By LynneJoyce
Back on Friday Portsmouth. My husband was working nearby so I acted as chauffeur and enjoyed a three day photo tour of the area. This included Portsmouth itself, The Isle Of Wight and on the last morning, a visit to The Royal Navy Submarine Museum in Gosport.

What a visual treat the Submarine Museum was, and to my delight, absolutely no restrictions on photography (I checked beforehand.) I chose to take only the Sony DSC RX10 with me because of the confined spaces and it turned out to be a very wise choice indeed as you can see from V1. How submariners manage in those incredibly cramped conditions I know not. You can see from V's 3 & 10 that every millimetre of space on board is used to the full.

It was a fascinating visit and I have many more photos from there. I really recommend it if you are in the vicinity but beware - large cameras and camera bags are an absolute no no. You also have to be prepared to crop out people's heads and feet because the tour is very crowded. All worth it though.

Editing the photos has been a real, but welcome challenge, because it has all been done on brand new kit and with brand new software. My usual two minute editing techniques have gone completely out of the window - all good cerebral stimulation.

Thank you for viewing and I hope that you enjoy at least some of these images, all of which were taken inside HMS Alliance.

we lived on our boat in Bursledon near there... but commuting to London 5 days a week meant no tourist visiting for me...weekends always sailing
but from your wonderful images looks like a visit is needed
