Lovely face. I agree about the crops though!

He's thinking..."I went for a trim and came out with a pudding basin haircut!" Wink Gorgeous image with such a characterful face. I agree, stronger without the legs.

ooh, you think? I quite liked the legs. And while I like the effect of the second mod (thanks YMLT) I think the head sits uncomfortably at top of frame.

Hello, Sus. When I read that you liked the legs, I was quite surprised because they seem to be growing out of the top of the dog's head. However, I see there is a lead there, too, so this is probably the dog's owner and you wanted to keep the person in the shot, so to speak. I think that it's just the dog who has the limelight, so the legs have to go, sorry. You have good colour, detail, focus and dof, but the head is very central in the frame. In my modification, I cloned out the legs, cropped to put the dog on the left side of the frame, lifted shadows, reduced highlights (the top of the head has strong light upon it), sharpened focus and added a touch of contrast.

nice mod, thanks Pam. OK, while I'm sort of fond of legs, I see what you mean...

Lampshades, is the term used I think for the legs, usually it is a person with a lamp shade sticking up from the top of their head.

Just a thought, next time and if you do want to keep the owner in the shot, try getting down to ground level and taking the shot up towards the dog and then have the owner blurred out in the background. That way you would get the entire person in the shot, if not get them to crouch down behind the dog.

I would ensure that the lead is a also visible because we need to have a bit of a visual clue as to who the person is.

Hope this helps
