Hairstreak: White M

By taggart
Hairstreak: White M
Parrhasius m-album 1 1/8--1 1/2 inches 28-32mm

A long tailed hairstreak that prefers open meadows near woods.

The Autumn Joy Sedum was in full bloom last week and attracted (hundreds) of butterflies. As I noticed some unusual ones, I set out to capture them. I had posted the Northern Hairstreak earlier-- but as I perused the images I discovered just a few of some rarely seen hairstreaks. I went back for several days but, sadly, they had vanished.

Tomorrow I will upload a Red-banded Hairstreak. The differences are subtle; I am posting for the butterfly enthusiast!

Good morning, Jenn,
This is a beautifully marked and coloured butterfly which I have never heard of.......I'm not very up in this field. So all the more interesting to see here, and so well captured by you.

What a cracker Jen!
Thanks for the comments on yesterday's image BTW. In answer to your concern about my health, well lets just say that things haven't improved! Although I am perhaps learning to live with it all a bit better. I'm still having to go to hospital on a twice weekly basis, which is a bit of a drag and I'm slowly managing to wean myself of the morphine......If I'd known how difficult that was going to be I'd never have agreed to going on it in the first place....grrrrr Smile Never mind I shouldn't grumble, at least I'm still here.....
Been busying myself with other things which is why I haven't been doing very much photography, but now the dark nights are drawing in over here, I should have more time for the computer. Hence me renewing my E2 membership today, so hopefully you should be hearing from me a lot more over the coming months.
Hope everything in your world is dandy......Best wishes......Ade

I'm always amazed at how you can name all these butterflies Jennn, you're either a keen lepidopterist or have a very good book on butterfly identification, no problem for me as I never see any, I have the flowers, including sedum, that's supposed to attract them, but nary a one has shown up - at least - not when I'm around Sad

PS. Almost forgot to praise the shot which would be unforgivable!

A fabulous image Jennnn, this species looks very similar to our white letter hairstreak which is quite rare over here. You've captured this tiny beauty's colours and markings perfectly
