HALONG BAY

By JN_CHATELAIN_PHOTOGRAPHY
Going to Halong Bay was an old dream of mine. I was not disappointed eventhough there was no sunset or sunset. Just being there, on a boat gliding among those mysterious rocks hidden in the mist was absolutely wonderful.

This is really a place to let your imagination go wild and you can understand why there are fantastic legends about this wonderful place.

"Local legend says that long ago when the Vietnamese were fighting Chinese invaders, the gods sent a family of dragons to help defend the land. This family of dragons began spitting out jewels and jade. These jewels turned into the islands and islets dotting the bay, linking together to form a great wall against the invaders. The people kept their land safe and formed what later became the country of Vietnam. After that, dragons were interested in peaceful sightseeing of the Earth and decided to live here then. The place where Mother Dragon flew down was named Hạ Long, the place where the dragon children attended upon their mother was called BŠi Tử Long island (BŠi: attend upon, Tử: children, Long: dragon), and the place where the dragon children wriggled their tails violently was called Bạch Long Vỹ island (Bạch: white- colour of the foam made when Children Dragon wriggle, Long: dragon, Vỹ: tail). (Wikipedia)

Thank you for your thoughts about my uploads of the mystical boat journey to the Perfume Pagoda. I hope you will enjoy the photos taken on Halong Bay and leave some comments, critique or advice.

Five amazingly beautiful shots, all of these deserve to be uploaded as 'main versions' in their own right. The water in V3 & V5 is the colour of jade.

I think V3 and V5 are my preferred images though they are all crackers.
In V3 the sense of scale from the little boat and the rock face is great.
V5 has good depth.
