What a nice dog shot. There ha to be one technical comment - it needs to be sharper. Try software, but I suspect camera movement in low light and software will struggle with that.

For me the background is to distracting and the exposure is wrong due to what looks a low light situation and using no flash. The dog seems too yellow. But you havent given your camera settings to the shot which does help.

Welcome to EPZ Tracy.

Its a nice cute shot, - like the tilt of the head and the curious look.

You camera was using Auto White Balance when you took this shot, and as with most digital cameras, it didnt correctly interpret the type of lighting, resulting in a yellow cast.

Next time, change the White Balance setting manually to match the type of lighting, - and you will get a more accurate result.

In my mod Ive attempted to correct the colour balance to what looked right to me for incandescent lighting; brightened the eyes, and added a couple of catch lights. You can also force your camera to use flash which may have provided catch lights in the eyes, - as this makes the eyes seem more alive.

Hope you find this helpful and constructive,

I agree with Willie, this is a nice cute shot with the dog having a curious look and tilted head. I also agree with his comments on white balance.

However, for me by far the biggest problem with the image is the distracting doorway and background colours. The problem with the wall on the left is that it is very close to the colour of the dog and causes the subject to blend in with it.

I have uploaded a mod where I have VERY QUICKLY removed the doorway and other area to the right, desaturated the image and then painted the dog back through the layer to help it stand out from the background. I also applied some sharpening.

Hope this is of help.

wow, you guys are amazing. Now I know I still have a lot to learn.

I caught this shot while he was upstairs and I was walking up. I didn't turn on flash, because I only had a build in flash, he looks too white under that flash. I'm getting a speedlite now.
He loves dog park, whenever I say "let's go see your buddies" he will give me this pose with tilted head : )

Willie, I love what you did to his eyes, feels like he is right infront of me.
DaVeS, did you use Photoshop to remove the doorway? How did you paint the dog back through the layer?

Thank you!
