Harlequin Ladybird

By Metro6R4
The arival.....

The Harlequin Ladybird is a recent arrival to the UK, but it is already very common in southern England. It loves to overwinter in large numbers in nooks and crannies of houses where it becomes a considerable nuisance. Although it rapaciously devours many garden pests, it is generally considered 'a bad thing' because, when pests run out, it apparently turns on the native British ladybird.
Having watched a Harlequin larva feast on one of its own siblings, I can well believe the smaller British relatives would stand no chance.

Sorry for the mix up on yesterdays upload but my Android tablet would not let me upload a version, all I kept getting on the (choose photos) button was a Lego brick with question marks around it????

Thankyou for all my votes & a U/A on my last upload.

I read an article about the Harlequin Ladybird a while ago, and I saw something like this the other day crawling across our yard. The body was a dark blue but the orange horsehoe pattern on the back was the same. Had I known it was a harlequin I would have trod on it.

best thing to do I guess but sounds a little harsh when it may not have been a Harlequin at allSad

as for the picture, a great find perhaps we should all be on the look out Smile

I've come across some rather unsavoury little critter in my travels, but this is something else. However stamping on him will not put an end to your nightmares GrinGrinGrin
