On one of my recent birding sorties I opted to go for some intimate close up photography, mainly to put my camera/lens combo to the test insofar as sharpness and resolution are concerned - two factors which I think form the groundwork towards improved wildlife photography.
Achieving my goal necessarily entailed lying flat on the ground by the water's edge (since I was after a low frontal angle of view) trying to lure a couple of ducks from the opposite bank in the process. My first few attempts in mimicking duck calls didn't prove too successful (I sounded more like a hoarse frog

), but eventually managed to draw in this female mallard towards me. Locking focus on the eyes, naturally, I did manage to bag a few good frames at max focal length of the lens (600mm) and at the distance I more or less wished to conduct my test. I liked the head on approach too, the emphasis on the eyes, allowing the rear plumage to diffuse gradually out of focus.
In all honesty, I was quite pleased with the clarity and end result of the D7500/Sigma 150-600mm C lens combo after all. Viewing large should give you a better idea of what I set out to achieve, and indeed did. Am quite happy with the result too.
Have a good week and stay all safe,
Joe
