Several interesting images of Japanese stations have appeared on ePhotozine recently and they reminded me of past visits and times spent in that fascinating country. I lived in Yokohama for almost four years in the late 80s and early 90s and so later, I tried to stay in the area when visiting on business. This was taken on Yokohama station one afternoon almost 10 years ago. That little girl on her way home from school is emblematic of that Japan: a place where children were totally safe and where public transport is completely reliable and punctual. She is in a world of her own tracing a path along the raised tiles designed to guide the blind and which are a feature on all stations in Japan. I love her hat – perhaps reminiscent of British public schools - and often wonder if the yellow umbrella is part of the uniform .
