Heads you lose

By glevensis
When I was very young, I visited the Tiger Balm Gardens (Haw Par Villa) in Singapore. Most of my trips to Singapore are not complete without a visit to the Haw Par Villa to recapture my life of some sixty years ago as an RAF child. I didn't appreciate at that young age how unusual my life was.

The attraction used to be more heavily frequented than it is nowadays. The world has moved on and the legends and especially the morality tales are seen as less relevant. The models do not shy away from gruesome depictions. This one is particularly violent. Considering the violence in modern films, this probably looks tame to most casual observers. I still find it shocking.

I thought back then the Canon 10D was quite a great piece of equipment. Looking back at the quality of some images, I wish the body and lens didn't weigh a ton around the neck. Canon made a damn fine camera with the 10D and the 28-135 image stabiliser lens still holds up well.

This photo is from a trip we made in 2006. There was no MRT in those days, you either got there by a series of bus routes or taxi. The area round there has changed quite a bit, too. We were in Singapore for a few days before travelling on to Bali to celebrate our 30th anniversary. Where has the time gone?
