Heart of the desert

By mlseawell
After a rough night in our friends trailer (our tent had been blown down!) my back couldn't take the mattress anymore and I got up. It was still dark and I had told my wife I was going to "lay in" and not photograph on our final morning but a change of plans was in order. With time to kill, I got dressed and went out for a final morning in the Valley of Fire. Forgive me for not waking you Mike!

At one point to reach the scenic side of the park you go up a very windy road that crest and levels off for a couple of miles and then down you go. This moment was captured just before I started my descent as the rising sun struck these incredible rock formations. Only a blind man wouldn't notice the intensity of the colors, the incredible pinks, reds, oranges and off whites that dominate this wonder in the....heart of the desert.

Backache is usually an excuse for staying in bed, not getting up, Mark!

Well worth making the effort here!
