Heath Robinson.....

By cattyal
Called Heath Robinson as in my variants I will show the lighting setup. I wanted to get a long strip of light with little fall-off to the back but still with lots of shadow. I therefore found myself a sheet of cardboard, some cable ties, tin foil and masking tape and cobbled together my light modifier Smile

It worked quite well - whether anyone will agree is debatable but I'm happy enough.

Next job is to find the 10-20 lens - I was going to play with that this afternoon but can't find the darned thing....

I like the lighting here, would of loved to see the models face too.
Great to see a lighting set up too, they are a mistery to me just now.

Seeing my face would only have mucked up the picture - big hats, masks and paper bags are my style Smile

I've not long had my lights but am constantly messing about with them - I just go on instinct and forget the 'rules' - if it works then it's good enough for me. That said, I suppose I should read up on lighting techniques - it wouldn't do any harm to know the basics and then I can ignore everything Smile

Joey Lawrence for one his early Rock Band location shoots, when he was just starting out made a softbox from cardboard and "borrowed" a bed-sheet from the hotel bedroom he was staying in. And that was a paid shoot!

Very much like the composition, and the creativity behind this shot. The hand is "fist like" and perhaps a softer pose would better suit with fingers elongated. The hat, perhaps could be tilted rather than having it face on. Perhaps just soften the highlights on the knees.

Look forward to further uploads in this series.

Ah - yes I use any old thing I can find about the house if it does what I want. I've not used bed-sheets yet but certainly why not - if it works then that's all that matters. That said, I do fancy another shoot-through brolly and I don't think I can cobble one of those together!

I did a few shots with different hand positions and decided to actually hold the strap to make it look as though I had a reason for bending down there. It hardly really matters though - the image is hardly about reality!

Oh yes and I noticed the shiny knees - the leggings have a metallic finish on them Smile

I'm sure I'll continue to experiment - there was a gap this afternoon when the room was actually warm for a while having had the sun shining in - then it went all cold again so I wrapped back up in my chunky layers!

Thanks again everyone - too chilly today to do anything that involved removing too many layers - maybe another day Smile

Hey arse away Roy - I enjoy seeing mods!
