Heave!

By James_C
The tug Svitzer Mercurius helps CMA CGM Marco Polo negotiate the Bramble Bank en route to Southampton docks yesterday evening. CMA CMG Marco Polo has come from Singapore. Ahead can be seen the Southampton Harbour Master's Pathfinder leading the way.

The Southampton Harbour Master has 3 16m patrol craft and escorts all the ships that are restricted in their movement through this section of The Solent.

Svitzer Mercurius is 32.7m 447GRT 82 tonne bollard pull tug built in 2014

CMA CMG Marco Polo is one of the largest container ships in the world. It is 396m long, 54m wide, has a draft of 16m and has a capacity of 16,000 TEUs (20 foot container equivalents). It was built in 2012. Whilst there are ships with greater capacity their physical dimensions are very similar.
For comparison - The Empire State Building is 381m tall.

Thanks for looking and enjoy your Sunday.
