I love working with grids. They're great for turning a speedlite into a spotlight. In this shot I simply used a gridded speedlite as a separation light on the background and lit the subject with a second speedlight in a 50" softbox. The softbox was angled so as to not throw any light on the background. All triggered with pocket wizards.

The lighting diagrams behind this image and a few others from that session are available on theLightMatters blog .

I produced several versions of this shot in post but this one with a slight bending of colour was the model's favourite.

Like it a lot....have done things in the studio with similar light and it always produces dramatic and interesting light, even if its not always to everyones taste. I don't really care! Wink This is excellent. Like the light a lot....the processing makes it more dramatic.....good stuff

Thanks Smile

The effect is simply a Lightroom preset (Creative Color - Color CP2) in the develop module
