Hmmmmmmm, lets hope it was not the Yellow Eyed Vampire Bird.

It is hard to tell without knowing how big or small they are, could be a Pheasant if large enough.

I would go with a pheasant judging by the rear toe.

Sounds like it may have been a Pheasant then, they are around that size.
