Hickory Dickory Dock

By chase
Don't think this clock is gonna strike one any time soon !!

The refections aren't as clear as i would have liked, I used an old piece of shiny black card, covered in scratches and scrapes. Just about got a reflection of the Mouse....which belongs to my neighbour. Balancing him on the inner workings of the clock took a while, I have run out of blutac Sad

Hmm, there is a teeny border around this to try and separate the image from the bg.
Thought about putting it on a white bg but that just goes against my grain , I can only just see it though !

2 images combined in Lightroom, finished with a tidy up crop and levels in Photoshop.

Thanks for dropping by.
Constructive critique and mods welcome.

Absolutely divine Janet, and to me I think the subtle reflection works perfectly well.....would a stronger reflection be too dominant???

Wonderful! And the inscription reads as though she was married to all the staff, too 🙂 lovely old timepiece, well worth restoring for Grimsby local history as well as horology! Beautifully photographed.

Nice combo. Clock appears a little off level, but perhaps its supposed to be? Mod has it level so it aligns with its reflection.

Maybe Angela, the card gives a reflection not unlike water.

Many thanks for your UA Dave, great compliment.
Don't think this could be restored, I reckon there are bits missing Sad

Thanks Willie, no it's not level, one of the feet is missing.
Thanks for the mod, that looks better.

Willie's done the mod I'd have wanted to do - the verticals in the clock really dominate the geometry.

And the mouse is wonderful...

If you want better reflections, use a mirror as a base with black foam board as back ground.
Love your work.

Think it benefits from banhawi's straightening of the levelling (even if it has a foot missing!), and it needs a thin border as in Robert's mod. I always prefer to use a black background as I think a white one distracts the eye from the image, but when the image itself is set against black, it does need a border otherwise you don't know where the image ends and the background starts.
However, I love the idea and it's a wonderful set-up, still worthy of my Award 🏆

Beautifully composed and great idea for using the clock and the borrowed mouse.
Great to learn from your still life and even you can learn from others too - re mods!

I like the original image Janet.
