High Kirk

By Philip_H
St Giles’ Cathedral, Edinburgh.

V1 shows part of the west front of St Giles' Cathedral, more properly termed the High Kirk of Edinburgh. The church has been one of Edinburgh's religious focal points for approximately 900 years. The present church dates from the late 14th century, though it was extensively restored in the 19th century. On the left hand side, in front of the cathedral, is part of the statue base to the 5th Duke of Buccleuch.

V2 & V3 show some selected detail on the outside of the cathedral, including a gargoyle (V3).

Thanks for all the C&Cs on 'Heads'.

Best wishes,

V1 is a finely composed image and I especially love the lace work like appearance of the panes at the back. V2 and 3 are nice details.

You have a wonderful gift for selecting the composition out of the bigger picture. V2 & V3 fill out the story (I do appreciate it when people use the multiple upload constructively), but V1 is the star. Cool, disciplined lines within the perfect square.

Three wonderfully observed images which provide one with a pictorial reference to sit comfortably alongside the interesting and informative foreword Phillip.

An excellent sectional capture in v1, Philip, but I do like the detail of the unusual inset sculpture of v2.

I agree with Moira, and like the elements that you've included in V1. My second favourite is V2, which I assume are three young choristers.
