On the last full day in Devon, the coach outing took us first to Totnes, before going on to Dartmouth. The forecast was for rain, it started off raining on setting off from Torquay, and never stopped until after we left Totnes ☔🙁 I only took ten photos, most of them inside – such a shame as it is a lovely town.
Totnes is said to have more listed buildings per head than any other town. Built on a hill rising from the west bank of the River Dart, this historic market town dates back to 907 when its first castle was built. Near the top of High Street is The Butterwalk (lead image), a Tudor covered walkway stretching for about 70 metres, that was built to protect the dairy products once sold here from the sun and rain – at least it protected me from the rain! 👍
A prominent feature of the town is The Eastgate (V1), an arch spanning the middle of High Street. This Elizabethan entrance to the walled town was destroyed in a fire in September 1990 but was rebuilt. I was stood in the middle of the road to get the best viewpoint of The Eastgate and was cursing when I spotted the car coming up the hill, but then thought it gave the scene added appeal with its headlights on and reflecting on the wet road.
Raw images processed in Adobe Camera Raw, tweaked in Nik Collection's Viveza 2 and Photoshop Elements 14.
Thanks again to everyone for your vote & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging 👍
