Himalayan Balsam

By Niknut
Yesterdays walk along a local canal gave me this shot......it's Himalayan Balsam, a very intrusive plant, but has beautiful trumpet-shaped
flowers......I was fascinated by the intricate structure & colour in the blooms, so concentrated on this aspect, rather than a wide view.........

This was the only successful shot from about 24, including some bees on Globe Thistle.....the damned wind was blowing the plants around
too much, to get 'em sharp......Grrrrrrrrrr !!!!!!!

Many thanks to all for the lovely comments on "Montbretia"........glad you liked it !!...& special thanks to Dougie for that valued UA !!!.Smile

It's a shame it's such a problem because the bees and insects do seem to enjoy it - just as much as I've enjoyed your lovely shot.Smile

I think you've done well to get these pin sharp in windy conditions, Keith!

It may be invasive, Keith, but it has a gorgeous bloom, and you have captured it to perfection. Carol

It is quite pretty but up here in our local park, the river bank (White Cart Water) and all the drainage ditch banks are now covered in this invader and all the natural vegetation has been choked out.
But I have to admit you have captured this specimen in excellent detail and showing off the intricate structure of the individual flowers.

One from 24 is much better than none from 24, Keith...especially when the one is as good as this!

Great image but I believe there is a concerted effort to get rid of this plant...rather like we are "eradicating" the Japanese Knot Weed (although it is a weed really!).
However, this one is quite an attractive weed isn't it?

The scourge of the River Bank, they are known very affectionally round these parts. However they do make for wonderful imagery Keith.

Near where I used to live the Daisy Nook country park used to run Balsam bashing weekends in order to try and control this - done before the exploding seedpods appeared. But they are a fascinating flower. Great shot
