My Carer came today & I quite casually asked her if she would mind lifting some potatoes for me. She looked a bit vacant & said how , I said come & I will show you. So I asked her to bring the garden fork which she did & I said gently put the fork under the leaves and lift. Well the joy & excitement as she saw the lovely potatoes popping up .I took out what I wanted & handed her the bag with a handful of fresh mint leaves . She was over the moon & I bet she had plenty to tell her next patient.
I will also show you a full trug & a heavenly bunch of sweet peas that are now filling the room with their perfume

A lovely colourful collection of fresh home grown vegetables viewed here. Iím assuming these skills of growing vegetables in your back garden can be traced back to WW11 and the dreaded - Ration Books.

Maybe not much meat on the table during those troubled times - but the veg was top class if it came from your back garden.

Thanks Dave I was only 12 when the war was over ! We did grow a lot of our own vegetables & potatoes but no Tomatoes . No greenhouseI was always growing flowers though any money I was ever given I would buy my Mother a packet of flower seeds . Somehow never sweet peas though , but Poppies & Pansies .
