HONISTER PASS

By Imagephotographics
Morning everyone !

Many thanks for your comments and clicks on yesterday's MISTY REFLECTION.

This is an image taken at Honister Pass, a minor road from Buttermere to Keswick in Cumbria, passing through some of the county's most spectacular scenery. You can just see Lake Buttermere in the distance.

It was pouring down with rain when we were here, there was a cafe at the top of this pass, which we stopped off at, and when we came out, I noticed a path along the way opposite which I decided to walk along, it was quite narrow and slippery, but decided to keep going to try to get a shot with the lake in the distance - when I returned I noticed a sign that said, do not go past this point, good job it was raining and there was nobody out and about to have come and told me off. Anyway, it was a stupid place to put a sign on the floor in the mud, I really had'nt noticed it.

As you can see this was an awful day, but I liked the colours in the slate and scenery that seemed to come to life in the wet. You can just see the very narrow road down below that runs through the pass - So HAVE A LOOK LARGE IF YOU HAVE TIME !

Chris

I was up there in the summer of 2009 on a sunny day, but I think the weather you have experienced, Chris, suits the nature of the place a lot better. I like the overcast conditions and the very moody atmosphere created, and yet you managed to retain a lot of detail and colour in your shot. An Image which I really like.

Such lovely tones and textures in a perfectly composed image. Such a moody look is very appealing, especially when seated in the warmth, indoors!

The damp slippery scramble was worth it, this is a superb landscape. The little glimpse of the lake at the end of the pass is just that extra fillip. Wonderful composition and the colours are magnificent.

It was certainly worth the trek, Chris, despite the nasty weather - and being naughty, going where you shouldn't! A super scene, almost looks 3D when viewed large. Stunning detail, and love the tones & textures in the foreground rocks.

You've done well to get this shot under the weather circumstances. Good colours despite the poor light. I know the area and yes an odd place to put a sign. Never mind-not caught. paul
