Hooded Merganser

By Hop-A-Long
I have managed to find a spare hour or so to upload an image.

This I took a while back on a visit to Washington Wetlands Centre, as you can see the sun was out, a rare occasion. The wind has been pretty bad again and from what I can gather, snow is on it's way. I shall believe that when I see it. We have been promised snow plenty of times this winter and never really had any, we could see it on the hills in the distance and on peoples images on here, not much in the garden and surrounding area though. I shall wait to wax the runners on my sledge.
I am still waiting for the day I can pick the camera up, another 4 days. This is hell. The amount of birds that have been coming and going in my back garden is unbelievable. There was a Hedgehog the other night in my garden and no camera. Never mind.

Hope you like this

A beautiful image. I like the still water on it's belly, but the movement blur on it's wings.

Vain little so-and-so. I bet some lady merganser's really impressed. What I really like here (and I warn you, I've just had two glasses of wine) is the contrast between that button-sharp eye and the wings - blurred but with just one feather really sharp.
I could have sent you some of our snow if you'd asked, we had plenty to spare a few weeks ago.

A remarkable image, Andy; it's always good to have a few spare shots in the can for a 'rainy day', especially when they're of this photographic and dramatic quality. Not that my hard drive is overstocked at the moment, you understand. Sad

I'm a bit surprised that Moira did not start talking recipes when she saw this one....

Best wishes,
Bill
