Hope Square

By TrevBatWCC
On the opposite side of Hope Square and facing the Brewer's Quay building is a pleasant corner to sit and eat. There's a choice of the Crow's Nest Bistro or next door to the left, The Monkey's Fist. We all know what a crow's nest is, but I was intrigued as what a monkey's fist was! Looking it up, itís nothing to do with monkeys, but is a type of knot, so named because it looks somewhat like a small bunched fist. It is tied at the end of a rope to serve as a weight, or can be used as an ornamental knot.

Raw images processed in Adobe Camera Raw, tweaked in Nik Collection's Viveza 2 and Photoshop Elements 14.

Thanks again to everyone for your votes & comments on my previous uploads, it really is appreciated and encouraging Smile

I encountered a monkey's fist a long time ago. The first school I taught at ran a Seamanship course, and the former boatswain in charge once brandished one in a school assembly and mentioned that the knot at the end of its short length of rope used to be wielded as a punishment.
But that was of course MANY years ago . . .

There's far more to Weymouth than I remember, and you're doing a fantastic job of PR for the town!

When the kids were young we used to holiday in Weymouth; and now you are convincing me a return visit should be made to explore places other than sand and sea.TongueTongueTongue
