Quote:I learnt it's very difficult to get horses to do what you want them to do

More to do with commanding than photographing though.... LOL

Lovely image - great atmosphere, love the composition, you must have "whispered" great things to persuade them to stand for the shot.

Thanks you everyone, I'm amazed at the great response to this Smile
Thanks very much or the user award Angie, that's a great compliment coming from you Smile

What did I want them to do? ...just be natural and pose in a normal horselike way! ...they followed me around like little puppies, nuzzling up to me and everything, it was difficult to get them into a photo, this isn't perfect but it's one of the best from many!

Processing wise, I opened the original jpeg in CS3, duplicated the layer, lowered the contrast using curves on the top layer then erased the bottom RH corner of the top layer where the horses are, this enhanced the mist and made the horses stand out more.
A little dodge and burn on the horses and a slight vignette to make the white border look more pronounced.
Re-sized and sharpened. That's it.

That mist just adds such a great atmosphere to the scene.
Well spotted and composed!
Beautifully captured early morning mist and the horses, the wonderful horses. Even if they didn't do what you wanted, they do look good here.

Love this. People are always telling me I need more contrast in my shots. It's interesting how you lowered the contrast to enhance the mistiness.

The brown horse looks a bit cheeky.

I think this is superb. Has a great mood to it ,reminds me of an old style painting. Thanks for the PP info too, looks far more complicated.
Inspirational stuff.

I prefer the multi-awarded portrait version, Rob, but still this is a special beauty.

Funny how other peoples opinions can influence your own. I preferred this shot originally, that's why I uploaded it first but now I agree with you and prefer the portrait shot.
