Hoverfly In Hedge Bindweed Flower

By Ade_Osman
Hoverfly In Hedge Bindweed Flower......Title say's it all really, bit of another quick upload from me this morning before I hit the sack for a few hours as I've been up all night watching the garden cameras.
Had a very interesting night too, 23:15 I had two hedgehogs in the garden and the fox at the same time!! What's more the hedgehogs seemed totally unperturbed by the foxes presence. He didn't attack them, they didn't roll up into a ball or try to run away, anything but as it happens......It's left me completely bewildered and not knowing quite what to make of it all????.........And it happened again at 04:00 this morning too.
Ho hum....Think I'll shall be seeking pro advice, because this isn't what's supposed to happen Grin
Catch up with everyone later hopefully......Ade

Good Morning Ade. You certainly do find your self in somewhat of a dilemma. Glad to hear the Hedgehogs were unharmed. "As for you upload, well not bad I suppose" GrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

Well Nathan it's got to be worth an upload surely! we saw a fox in our garden trying to get behind a cat, the cat was on a bridge over the pond!, the fox ran round and round the bridge but the cat was to quick and spitting fire until the fox gave up, Sleep well Ade, regards Leon.GrinGrinGrinGrinGrinGrin

A very clear and detailed close up of this hoverfly Ade, the events in your garden last night are baffling to say the least. I guess the fox does not need to attack the hedgehogs as he can get easier meals elsewhere and there is probably enough food left out by good folks like you and Sue that he does not need to bother risking injury from the hedgehogs sharp prickles. Either that or he's more intelligent than you think and has decided it would be wiser to play nicely as he knows he will get a good hiding from your good self if he steps out of line!WinkGrin I shall be tuning in tonight to watch events unfold for myself, I must have missed the foxes visit as I did not log on to your webcam until just before I went to bed and the Champions League highlights had finished.

a beautiful macro, pleased to see you are into flowers now Smile
I have never heard of foxes attacking hedgehogs, they might just be after a meal. I happen to know they love cat biscuits.

A very fine close-up and well exposed to retain detail in the flower.

The hogs are being fed kitten biscuits at the moment if order for them to fatten up ready for the hibernation period, they're also getting treats like mealworms and the odd custard cream which they devour Smile
If anybody wants a look at last nights footage of the fox and the hedgehogs feeding together, drop me an PM with your email address and I'll send you a 8 minute long edited lo-res (4.5mb) movie of the shenanigans....Wink

Off ta bed for a few hours kip now, it's been a long night Smile

Perhaps because the fox is well fed he is not interested in the hedgehogs, whatever, at least he is not bothering them, not giving you much rest though Ade! Love the image, such a fine close up.

Foxes, cats and squirrels seem to live in harmony in my back garden and the neighbours'. I think it is a case of it's easier and less hazardous to scavenge on the easy pickings in the bins etc.

Firstly ... an amazing capture yet again Ade.
Secondly ... I was also watching last night when the fox made an appearance - I could not believe my eyes either! The hedgehogs just carried on as if it was not there at all, even when the fox had a quick sniff at one of them and walked off! Earlier in the evening I saw a cat make a "guest" appearance...was it yours?

If it was a Tabby, that was Simba, if it was a Black & White, that was Twinkle, both ours....If it was a completely white cat, that was Frank, he's from next door Grin

It was a black and white cat, so I assume it was Twinkle!
