Humpback Whale Calf

By BobinAus
Humpback whales are now migrating southward along the eastern coast of Australia. Many of them spend a few days resting and socialising in the calm and predator-free waters of Hervey Bay in Queensland. For the first time in many years, I won't be able to go north to the Bay this year but I'll see these magnificent animals as they swim past the south coast of New south Wales in a few weeks. In the meantime I'm posting this picture which is a couple of years old. Just a few decades ago, sights like these were very rare. Because the population has recovered dramatically, however, breaches and other spectacular behaviour can be observed daily.
