When I was passing through the town of Ayvalik on my return, I couldn't help stopping to buy some olive oil, as it is one of the three areas (the others being Toscana and Crete) that best quality olive oil is produced in the world. As they discovered my great interest in olives and olive products they showed me these two old bars of soap that they were keeping in a glass case. They were so helpful and friendly. After drinking tea and tasting their olives and olive oils, I bought two numbered bottles of prize-winner oil, a five litre can olive oil for cooking, several bars of soap and olive oil cream. I sked if I could take photographs, and the owner of the firm
Cmrt (short form for Comert, meaning generous) kindly allowed me. I went back to the car and grabbed the camera. So, this is the story behind this image. The bar in the front is from the Ottoman era and a hundred years old, and the one behind it although looks older was produced after the establishment of the republic. I took several more photographs and I will post them tomorrow.
Thank you for sharing your sentiments for my loss and your appreciation of my last upload.
