Hunting Kestrel

By SteveMoulding
Hi everyone, I had a great break but unfortunately came back to a pile of problems. For one, probable redundancy and another being locked out of my own home and the expense of emergency locksmiths. Not a good start. Anyway enough waffle.

I have always wanted to capture a Kestrel hovering but I'm never in the right place at the right time. These are not great shots and have many faults but I was quite pleased just to get them. They are literaturely grab shots, handheld, as the Kestrel only hovers for roughly 10 secs before repositioning or diving so I took the chance they wouldn't be too bad. She did dive as the second shot shows but there is a lot of motion blur, she was so quick, gone in a flash. I didn't see what it was she had caught but probably a vole or chick.
I hope you like them despite the flaws.
Have a great weekend, I have to work, but maybe it will be my last for a while, who knows, I will find out next week.

Best wishes,

Please improve them if you can, mods are always welcome as my PS skills are not great.

Some really good detail in V1. Love the light through those wing feathers you captured. What a shape achieved in V2! Well done capturing 2 such good shots of the rapid action! So sorry to learn about the problems. Such a worrying time for so many. Do, please, let us know what happens next week re the job.

Wow, v.1 is awesome Steve, lovely light in his wings too. v.2 is pretty unique. Timing of that one is wonderful to get such an unusual shot. At the rate they plummet downwards I wouldn't give much chance for the poor vole or whatever...Cracking duo.

Hand held and grab shots these may be but they demonstrate the concentration and then speed of this kestrel. Well caught.
