The dof works well. I keep thinking it needs to be a bit lighter, I've done a quick mod for you, not sure it's any better though.

Really shows the waxyness of petals, I never seem to get organised enough to plant them..
All the best

Nice picture, good dof etc,

I'm not sure that Jeanette is right to say that the photo is dark but it is slightly "flat". Another light source to create some bright highlights and caste some darker shadows might help.

This would primarily affect the foreground flower making it stand out even more from the background (and so enhancing the feeling of depth that you have already created).

Hope you had a nice Christmas.

Neil

by the way I DO feel sheepish offering you advice when your work consistently scores a lot more highly than mine!

Thanks very much Neil - your advice is most appreciated. Still tending to be a 'happy snapper' I fear, but it is a pleasure to have such wise counsel.
As usual I tend to rush things and try to get pics taken between the washing and ironing so to speak!! My NY resolution will be to take more time and trouble over positioning and lighting. I am sometimes bemused to see the 'c....' scores, though it is, of course, very flattering - but I'm not sure it is really always deserved!
