Both work, and in different ways. I would choose the colour version. Its a good mono conversion too.

This is the undertakers version, life drained of all colour!

regards

The monochrome I feel portrays the weather and the mood slightly better than that of the colour. Great photography.

I'll stick with the colour version Kate, the weather's grey enough.

perhaps why the images are converted to monos is evident here.. we can give more attention to faces, as other things become not-so-interesting without the color (perhaps)... and so, because expressions were a great part of it, i will lean slightly towards the mono..

Perhaps the mono version is even more representative of the British Summer.
Great mono portrait, Kate.

This works for me though I would go for deeper, harder blacks. This is more about the faces than the waterproofs.

Willie really has lost touch with the realities of summertime in Britain. This looks quite clement in comparison with some days!

The colour version IS the reality! The mono is how a dog would see the scene!

Colour shows the hope of a nice sunny day, with the disappointment of the rain; mono shows only one aspect.

The mono certainly adds to the miserable mood coming from the boy. I actually prefer this versionWink

And to add to the sombre scene, the poor lad has no ice cream, a very good well seen shot.

Just out of interest:

"Dogs are dichromats, and have colour vision equivalent to red/green colour blindness in humans. So they can see blue and yellow, but have difficulty differentiating between red and green because they only have two spectral types of cone photoreceptor, while normal humans have three." (Wikipedia )

I'm sure many would agree there's a lot more to photography than the merely literal representation of outward reality.
But... whatever floats your boat.
The colour version has its place, but I've a preference for the mono. As Moira says, it's about the faces.

whatriveristhis:

Dont interpret a preference for the colour version of this photo for a lack of understanding thats theres more to a photo than the literal representation of outward reality.

This demonstrates to me a lack of understanding of an individuals preference when given a choice between two images.
