If the virus can do that - we might be able to do it

By bliba
Bergamo end of December 2019:, many people on Bergamo's streets, good mood, no idea that the virus was already there and what everything comes to us ......

Bergamo/Italy March 13 2020 Everyone at home, but all together. That's the motto in Italy for defying the coronavirus. From the balcony there is now a daily demonstration and music against the "virus blues".

Italy defies curfew with balcony concerts

I wish you all the best

"Through Corona we will adapt our entire attitude towards life - in the sense of our existence as living beings in the midst of other life forms."

Slavo Zizek at the height of the corona crisis in mid-March

Every deep crisis leaves behind a story, a narrative that points far into the future. One of the strongest visions left behind by the coronavirus are the Italians playing music on the balconies. The second vision is sent to us by satellite images that suddenly show the industrial areas of China and Italy free of smog. In 2020, humanity's CO&sub2; emissions will fall for the first time. This fact will do something to us.

If the virus can do that - can we possibly do that? Maybe the virus was just a messenger from the future. Its drastic message is that human civilization has become too dense, too fast, too overheated. It's racing too fast in a direction where there is no future.

But it can reinvent itself.
System reset.
Cool down!
Music on the balconies!
This is how the future works.

This is creating social and economic changes that we can scarcely appreciate as yet. Not all are bad. We have received three offers of help, one from a complete stranger a couple of streets away; people are rallying round to help the elderly and the lonely in a quite extraordinary way.
But when it is all over I wonder how quickly we will be able to pick up the normality of social contact again?
Excellent street photography. One face shining through the silent anonymity.

Bergamo reminds (in a different scale) Hirosima... Why so many innocent people?

A beautiful photo Oliver.
Sad to see news from Italy, Spain and other counties these days.
So many death people.

I have heard the concerts----and the morning bells---- from Italy and then, starting to come from distant places all around the globe!

A different world already--perhaps moving towards better---

Fabulous image and text!

Let us hope that when these times are but a memory, that the lessons learned are not forgotten...

It's a great benefit all round that emissions, pollution and unnecessary journeys are all reduced.

Things will never be the same again. There could be very positive changes born of this, eventually, but some hard times to get through first.

Best wishes, Ollie.

It is sobering to wonder how many people in your image are still with us? Your image having been taken straight into the sun, some pedestrians are already fading away. Good strong image and notes.
Stay safe, Oliver.

A fine image, Ollie 👍 Let's hope it all soon blows over - and hopefully get back to some, if not all, normality 😬
Take care and keep well,
Trev 😀
