If you're looking for a sign not to kill yourself

By philtaylorphoto
11 February 2019. Bridge over the M61 Motorway at Over Hulton, Near Plodder Lane.Bolton Recently signs have appeared on the bridge, intended to deter suicide attempts. On Sunday, they were on both sides of the bridge, but tonight, the ones on the Bolton bound side appear to have been torn off. I believe they are put there by a charitable group, who install them on bridges across the North West. This bridge only has a low paprapet, Sometimes you see something that just makes you want to stop being a grammar pedant.

I walked across a bridge over the A45 on Sunday that still has the flowers pinned to it. Maybe if there had been one of these notices there someone would still be alive. Very sad.

I wonder what the best 'trigger' to stop would be?

Enough people who care, maybe, and people who are willing to sit and listen?

TBH, I felt a bit awkward shooting this as a stock picture. Would it encourage people to seek that bridge out? There's one bridge in town that is notorious, but this isn't it.

What disturbed me was that I was around for about 30 mins on a bridge by a busy road, looking over a bridge, and nobody stopped to ask if I was OK

Then there's the issue of what causes it. I shoot the PR for a debt counseling charity, and many of their clients have contemplated suicide. Universal Credit and ATOS must be to blame for some of the desperation

Just a little note to say a big thank you to all who voted for, and commented on this.

I still feel uneasy about it. At least it's got people talking about it here.

Phil, there's something about comforting the disturbed and disturbing the comfortable...

By definition, most of us here on Ephotozine are comfortable enough, materially, to have time and resources to take and look at photographs: I know there are some exceptions. But, in general, I think that sharing your discomfort with the rest of us is a good thing.
