It is amazing when they first come out of their pupae (is that the right term) they need to stand still--and vulnerable--for hours while their wings get hard. This is a beautiful, crisp macro photo.

PETER: The aquatic stage of dragonflies is called 'nymph' and in that stage they live in ponds and small lakes feeding on aquatic insect larvae for four years before emerging. They only live one summer as fully developed dragonflies.
