Impressionism: summer fields

By zazzycat
Taken in the gardens of Wimpole Hall, Hertfordshire, on a day of mixed light, so the original was dull and uninspiring. I hope the painterly version is more appealing!

I really like the painting effect. The colours are good.
You have posted this in the critique gallery.
The area for improvement in my view is the composition. The tree is a bit dominant, it could be either more to the right or faded more. The perspective between the trees/background area and the foreground flowers just does not seem right to my eye. Maybe the flowers go too far up the picture? The flower in front of the tree and some at the back could be removed.
I've done a mod which looks better to my eye.
Lovely picture anyway

I can appreciate you problem Fiona so if you enjoy playing with your pics on your PC then fine. Compositionally here the tree is rather too central and so I would recommend palcing it around the RH third to make the surrounding area more complementary to it.

Normally I would suggest changes to yoru camera settings, faster shutter speed, smaller aperture, no exposure compensation, but if your intention is to change your pics to look like paintings then I guess it doesn't really matter a jot.

Something like Ian's mod is the way to go but I would prefer to see a slight cut from the base even on his upload, just to bring down the tree base a little.

Many thanks for the comments - all very useful critique. I actually had 3 trees in a diagonal from the bottom right, but felt that was too heavy for the light Impressionistic effect I was aiming for, so cropped it down!!

I remember this too; the day out we had! I think it's an improvement on reality, I think Monet might have approved!!!
