In Garrigill

By woolybill1
This building stands next to St. John's churchyard, Garrigill, in the North Pennines. I suspect it is not so derelict as it looks.

31mm, 1/40th sec. @ f9, ISO 200.

Thank you for the kind comments and suggestions about my sore eyes. We had no cucumber in the house yesterday so I chopped a few large onions instead and glowered at them for a while; my eyes were nice and moist all afternoon. If the soreness returns I shall try the whisky treatment tonight Smile

Really like the square crop and composition, lots of nice textures and detail. These old stone buildings may look rough at times when not maintained, but does not take much to bring them back to life as long as the walls are solid.

like this Bill, love the attention to detail and the spot on composition. Wouldn't mind seeing this as a dark and moody mono

Oh my, just look at all that wonderful moss on the roof...I bet there is an amazing world of tiny wildlife living there.
I know it's an old building, but this is a very nice refreshing image Bill.
Take care of those eyes....I find a really cold damp flannel laid on them for about ten minutes helps a lot, then you can have your whiskey...

Ok...So heres the thing Bill....I am only allowed 1 vote. I was going to vote for your photograph, with all that wonderful detail of both the moss on the roof and the building as well as the super texture, but Ian's comment won hands down!!!! So having said that, my vote has to go to Ian's comment....hahahaha

Whisky is the best treatment, you have to measure it carefully, too much makes your eyes red and shiny.
Lovely shades of green Bill.

Mono version added for comparison - I hope it is sufficiently dark & moody! Thanks to Dave, Albert & Diana for the suggestion.

amazing what a mono can do to alter the mood and feel of a shot. This was made for mono and the conversion is spot on. Nice one Bill

Love the moss on the roof here Bill.I have often wondered if this is a good thing for the building, as it could act as a form of insulation.Or a bad thing,as it could cause dampness.Would be interested on any comments here !!!

Watcha Bill,
excellent exercise in texture and form, unusually, I prefer the colour to the B&W, I think that maybe because with all this lovely texture it may need the gritiness of a lith type treatment?
