In Search Of Paradise

By hwatt
Loch Assynt, Sutherland, Scotland.

Just one thing stops this place being a complete photographers paradise, midges. At the time of year I took this namely late Spring the little darlings are swarming all over you. They are in your ears up your nose and their bite is out of all proportion to their tiny size. The situation was exacerbated by the relatively windless conditions but the bitingly sharp clean light persuaded me the effort was well worth the next days lumps.

Pentax67II, 55-100 zoom, polariser, 0.45ND grad, Velvia 50 F22 at 1/4 sec.

My first thought when I saw this thumb, midges. This spot seems to be a midge city, and they've all been on diets.
Great fresh light across the composition Ian, must be quite late from the direction of the sunlight, it fairly throws the trees into fine relief against the splash of colour.
Wish it was closer to me now.

All the very best and I'm still scratching,

Seems you've found it.....apart from the midges, that is....beastly creatures. Lovely image.

Beautiful place, but you're right about the midges. We spend most our free time in Assynt and they are absolutely horrendous in the summer. Got some really good jackets now that have a little net in the patch pocket on the front that zips into the jacket hood at the first sign of the biting beasties. They are lifesavers Smile

Good comp. If we did'nt have the midges then there would be thousands of tripod holes there and it would'nt be the same Smile Smile
