If I'm being truthful, I was lucky to arrive at all. We had been in Zion all day, finally leaving the park an hour before sundown to find something in Springdale, the town just outside the park, to eat. We had ran out of food and the look in my significant other's eyes told me she simple was NOT going to miss dinner, photography be damned. After 32 years of marriage I know when to go silent, dinner it was. We found a lovely Mexican restaurant and really enjoyed the meal. I nervously kept looking at the rising moon and the fading light but had given up on returning to the park. But I guess guilt set in for my wife and she said "Okay, let's go back." And off we went, me convinced it really was too late and her feeling guilty because she knew I wanted an evening shot. She was kind enough to drive so I could jump out as she looked for parking (no easy task). I hastily set up my camera, the light fading quickly and captured...blackness. I still had a polarizer on! Finally realizing my error I took it off and increased my ISO to capture this moment...in the shadow of the watchman.
